In a surprise reversal of the usual way buyouts happen, a more ethical company has bought a less ethical company – green energy provider Octopus Energy has bought Shell Energy.
Shell Energy, previously owned by Shell Plc, had an ethiscore of 2.5 in Ethical Consumer's Ethical Energy Suppliers guide. Compared to Octopus' 14.5. The buyout took place in December 2023, and all Shell Energy customers are currently being transferred to Octopus.
