HDC Climate Action Consultation - Part 2

One of the commitments the council has made is to "work with residents and communities to support them in reducing emissions". So, it will be really helpful for them to know what support you need.

For most of us, our highest emissions are created from travelling around, whether that be for work, education, getting to appointments, leisure or shopping, and heating our homes. Both of these activities currently require us to use huge amounts of fossil fuel. So what is stopping you from behaving differently? Here are a few questions to get you thinking - what incentives or penalties would actually make a difference to you?

Travelling Around

  • What's stopping you changing to an Electric Vehicle?

  • What would be needed to encourage you to walk and cycle more and use your car less?

  • What do think should be available in the way of public transport?

Heating your Home

  • What would help you to ensure that your home is as well insulated as it should be

  • What problems do you think might arise as you try to replace your gas boiler, electric storage heaters or oil fired heating to more sustainable methods?

These are obviously complex issues, and will need long term strategies and plans to resolve. The more information the council has about the issues and concerns people have, the better they will be able to respond.

Don't forget the closing date for responses to the survey is July 30th, so don't miss out on your chance to have your say, and let the council know what they need to do to support you.
