Overview of HCA Open Meetings, 2024



Harborough Climate Action embarked on a series of Open meetings in 2024, which have proved to be very popular.


We thought members might like to have access to the slides from each of these meetings.


April 2024 - Ways Out of Climate Change

Professor Heiko Baltzer Professor Balzter was a member of an expert panel addressing delegates at COP28. His talk covered :

  • Outcomes and implications of COP28

  • Pathways to Net Zero

  • Implications of Net Zero for Land Use and Agriculture




May 2024 - Carbon Literacy

Hannah Bedard and Ellen Worrall have both undertaken full Carbon Literacy training, so are certified as Carbon Literate. They gave an overview of Carbon Literacy and what it means. During the talk they gave informed advice to :

  • help people understand what actions they can take to make a difference to your carbon footprint

  • understand which actions make the biggest difference

  • help us all to get used to talking about climate change so it becomes part of mainstream conversation


June 2024 - How Bad Are Bananas?

Judy Burrage ran an interactive session, based on the book by Mike Berners-Lee.

The event helped us to understand the real impact of each of the things we do and buy every day, that will help us do the right thing for the planet

July 2024 - Climate Psychology

Dr Emmie Williamson was until very recently a clinical psychologist working in the NHS.

She talked about how Climate psychology can help us to understand the roots of the climate and ecological crisis, the psychological impacts and defences, and ways in which we can help ourselves and others to cope and take action.



October 2024 - How Green is Harborough?

Dr Gordon Blunt has been a statistician for over 40 years, and looked at what the data say about how 'green' Harborough (town and district) is compared to other parts of the UK.




November 2024 - GreenerFuture Programme

Ben Dodd is is a Director of Green Fox Community Energy, and talked about the GreenerFuture Programme which aims to accelerate community energy across Leicestershire and establish locally driven renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
