Harborough Climate Action (HCA) are supporters of this campaign, and will be joining in with a Day of Action being organised in Leicester.
Date : Saturday 18th November
Time : 11.30am - 3pm
Venue: Highfields Centre, 96 Melbourne Rd,LE2 0DS
Activities being planned for the day include:
11.30am - 1.30pm : crafting activity to help finish a Warm Homes community quilt
1.30pm - 3pm : stalls, activities and refreshments
2.45pm : photo of everyone attending, including local MPs who have agreed to attend
We would love it if as many people as possible from the Market Harborough area attend - you don't have to be a member of HCA. The centre is a 15min walk from Leicester Station, so accessible by train or bus for most. For those who would find the walk too much, we are hoping to provide car sharing with Electric Vehicles. Email us to let us know if you would like a lift: hca@SustainableHarboroughCommunity.co.uk
What is the United for Warm Homes Campaign?
The national campaign is being run by Friends of the Earth. It is trying to persuade all MPs, whatever party they represent, to put in place policies that will tackle both fuel poverty and climate change. Specifically :
Provide proper financial support to people in fuel poverty
Fund a national street by street home insulation programme, starting with areas with the highest levels of fuel poverty
Stop supporting use of fossil fuels and give real support to UK renewable energy generation
What Can You Do To Help?
Show your support by coming along to some or all of the day. Sign up here
Make a fabric square with a slogan of your choosing to add to the Community Quilt
Bring along plant based cakes/cookies to add to the refreshments table
Email/write to your local MP to encourage him/her to come along to the event. You can find the contact details for your MP here
This promises to be an enjoyable as well as a worthy one, so do hope lots of you will join us there.
